Walter Frye joined American Express in 2007 and is currently Vice President of Sponsorship and Branded Entertainment. Since 2010, he has led programs that provide American Express Card Members unparalleled access and experiences in the entertainment industry. In this role, he leads the strategic development and execution of American Express’ U.S. marketing programs with large scale entertainment partners, such as the Artist Nation, AEG, Coachella Music Festival, Hollywood Bowl, and The Bowery Presents.
In this role, he produces “American Express Unstaged”, an award winning live-streaming concert series done in partnership with YouTube and VEVO that pairs popular music artists with iconic filmmakers to bring the in-concert experience to at-home audiences in an industry-defining streaming-engagement platform. He’s forged partnerships with some of the industry’s biggest artists including Jay Z, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, and Taylor Swift. With Swift, he produced an Amex Unstaged app that enabled users to direct their own 360 degree experience of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space music video, which recently won an Emmy Award. American Express recently expanded Unstaged to support artists on the rise with Amex Unstaged Artists in Residence, which has included Borns, Rae Sremmurd, Mary Lambert, Betty Who and many others.
Walter held a variety of marketing and general management roles at American Express prior to his current position. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School received a bachelor’s in Economics from Yale University.
